DESIGN AND PURPOSE WORKSHOP
The TPMS team were approached by Sheppard Robson, GRAHAM and Equitix to provide customer insights to support a pitch process to be the preferred delivery partner for the University of Manchester Fallowfield campus redevelopment.
Through the bidding process the University of Manchester wanted to create modern, high-quality, purpose-built student accommodation on the Fallowfield campus to support its growth trajectory. Once built it will be the UK’s largest student accommodation development, offering 3,300 modern student beds alongside social and amenity spaces designed for today and tomorrow’s students.
Drawing on the findings from our Gen Z research and Youth Forums we held a workshop for the team to help them to influence design and purpose of this new development.
Our workshop looked at living expectations of students focusing on wellbeing, community, environment, study, room layout, technology and affordability. Using insights from our research gave the team credible and deeper understanding of their customer base, ensuring that the design proposals were backed up by key customer research and that the completed product would meet expectations for what students want in their student home.
"We do our research to support the sector to build better homes for its customers. So we were obviously delighted that our insights and research played a small part in ensuring that this large student accommodation development has been designed with student voices, wants and aspirations in mind." - Sarah Canning and Deenie Lee
“Talking to you helped us to appreciate our own design and to focus more on student experience. It also gave our bid more credibility.” – Natalia Maximova, Associate Partner, Shepphard Robson
"The customer insight workshop with TPMS gave us a better understanding of the students who would living in this new development, helping us to ensure our bid would meet their expectations and therefore the needs of the clients. The research findings presented by Sarah and Deenie were very insightful and we came away from the workshop with a clearer idea of how we could deliver the bid and the project efficiently." - Ben Leech, Managing Director, Investments, Equitix
“Taking the time to attend this insight workshop alongside Equitix and Sheppard Robson enabled us to think of this new development from the student's point of view, ensuring that we were meeting their needs and expectations. The research undertaken by the TPMS team gave us some key findings which helped towards our successful bid.” - Neil McFarlane, Strategic Development Director, GRAHAM
